Universities will limit the number of paid places in universities in 46 areas
The Russian government will impose restrictions on the number of paid places in universities in 46 popular fields of study, including law, economics and psychology. This became known on October 28 from a project of the Ministry of Education and Science.
According to Kommersant, state regulation will affect specialties in which there is an excessive paid recruitment in the absence of demand from the economy.
According to the document, the number of paid places will be determined based on the average admission rates over the past two years. For areas where more than half of the students study for a fee, the quota will increase by 10%. At the same time, specialties where the average exam score of paid students was below 50 will lose commercial recruitment.
The list includes 34 bachelor's degree programs and 12 specialties, including architecture, oil and gas engineering, and international relations. Private and public universities will be able to challenge the allocated quotas by providing data on the demand for graduates or contracts with international students.
Earlier on October 28, Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, stated the need to create an effective system of interaction with foreign citizens who received education in Russia but live abroad. He noted that about 415,000 foreign citizens from 185 countries are currently studying at universities in Russia. By 2030, Russia will be able to accept half a million foreigners for education.
