Roman Popov, actor. Biography
Roman Popov — early years, the beginning of his career
Roman Popov was born on February 9, 1985 in Konotop, Ukraine. When the future artist was not even two years old, his family moved to Yoshkar-Ola, where he spent his childhood and adolescence.
Since his youth, Popov aspired to an acting career. After receiving his school certificate, he attempted to enter both the Moscow State Pedagogical University and the Psychological Faculty of the Mari Pedagogical Institute. However, he did not attend the final exam in the capital, fearing that his burr would become an obstacle to enrollment.
During his studies at the pedagogical Institute, Popov appeared on stage for the first time, joining the student KVN team. This passion quickly overshadowed his interest in psychology, and he never completed his higher education.
In 2003, the family moved from Yoshkar-Ola to Sochi. In the resort town, the aspiring comedian was able not only to develop his talent, but also to start earning money from it. There was also a fateful meeting with his future stage partner, Hovhannes Grigoryan. They worked together at a local show agency, hosting corporate parties and celebrations. In 2010, their duo won the Golden Microphone professional competition, which opened up new opportunities for the artists.
Roman Popov — work on television, filming
Together with Oganesyan, Popov went to conquer Moscow. In the capital, the artists created a comedy duo "20:14. The City of Sochi" and took part in the Comedy Battle project. Their humor was highly appreciated by both the audience and the jury, and in the third season of the project, the duo was recognized as the winner. This triumph opened the way for them to become residents of the Comedy Club. Viewers saw the first performance of "20:14" on TNT on the eve of 2014.
The success on Comedy Battle led to invitations to other projects on TNT and Comedy Club Production. The artists participated in the creation of the humorous program "Do not sleep!", and on Comedy Radio they hosted the weekly program "NO DAYS SHOW".
Popov's film debut took place in 2016. He got one of the key roles in the TV series "Policeman from Rublevka", where he played investigator Igor Mukhich, a friend of the main character Grisha Izmailov, played by Alexander Petrov. His character, a simple and straightforward guy, quickly won the sympathy of the audience.
The first season of "Policeman from Rublevka" became one of the highest-rated projects on TNT, and its cast gained national fame. Subsequently, the media franchise expanded with sequels and feature films. In 2022, the spin-off "The Mukhich Detective Agency" was released, focusing on the character of Popov.
At the same time, the artist managed to act in other films. In 2016, he appeared in Alexei Nuzhny's comedy detective "The Last YouTube Video" about the search for abducted bloggers. His filmography includes projects such as "Presidential Vacation" (2018), "Girls are Different" (2019), "Love during Non-working Weeks" (2020), "Boomerang" (2021) and "Nerd and Superbaba" (2022).
