Hungary's presence in the Soviet bloc reflected the threat of global division into political and ideological camps. This was announced on October 28 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto at the Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.

"For four decades, the world has been divided into blocks. And we Hungarians have lost almost four decades of our lives. And it is this phenomenon that has a strong impact on us now. Our experience shows that we can only lose if we split into two blocks," he said.

According to the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, after the end of the cold war, global security remains in a pernicious state, since the current tests require joint solutions. Hungary stands for maintaining dialogue between the two countries, despite the growing political tensions.

The day before, Szijjarto said that the European Union (EU) was not given the opportunity to participate in conflict resolution, as the bloc's countries could only "inflame tensions." According to him, the common feature of both the Ukrainian and the Middle East crises is that the personality of US President Donald Trump "actually embodies hope for a solution."
