Hungary has declared the need for a "Eurasian dialogue" for global security
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the critical global security situation can be improved only through the resumption of diplomatic dialogue between the Eurasian countries. On October 28, he posted a corresponding statement on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"Global security is in the worst state since the end of the Second World War. We are facing challenges that can be solved through consensus," Szijjarto said at the Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, it is necessary to achieve this goal through the "Eurasian dialogue". He did not specify specific formats of cooperation, but stressed the importance of restoring communication between the countries to overcome existing geopolitical difficulties.
In addition, Szijjarto stated that the Western approach, which involves isolation and refusal of communication, is erroneous. He noted that military methods cannot be a solution to modern challenges, and consensus between countries remains elusive due to differences in approaches.
"We believe that the current situation is the reason that should serve as an impetus for the restoration of a more active dialogue. The dialogue should be closer than ever. We must hope and negotiate for the sake of peace," Szijjarto stressed.
The Hungarian diplomat also called on the international community to bring their positions closer and find diplomatic ways to resolve the crises.
Szijjarto said in an interview with The Washington Times (WT) on October 22 that EU elites are trying to avoid any initiatives that could lead to peace in Ukraine. According to him, Europe is now "dominated by military psychology." The Minister also stressed that Budapest is always ready to mediate in negotiations and maintains open channels of communication with Moscow.
On October 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Putin, taking part in the Russian-American summit in Alaska in August, confirmed Moscow's readiness to work on resolving the conflict in Ukraine based on the concept proposed by the United States. In September, during Lavrov's visit to New York, he reminded Secretary of State Marco Rubio of these events and agreements and received a reply that the United States remembers them and discussions are underway.
