Lavrov pointed to the long absence of discussions on the extension of the START Treaty

There has been no talk of extending the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START Treaty) for a long time. This was announced on October 28 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

According to him, for a new treaty to replace the START Treaty, a fundamentally different situation in relations between the Russian Federation and the United States is needed.

He noted that the Russian Federation is waiting for the official positive reaction of the United States to its initiative on the START Treaty.
