Scammers began to deceive Muscovites under the guise of changing the intercom codes
Fraudsters began to use a new scheme to deceive residents of the capital by allegedly changing the codes from the intercoms. This was announced on October 28 by Denis Kovalenko, head of the 6th Department of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow.
"Scammers have adopted an old scheme of stealing passwords from accounts under the guise of changing codes from intercoms," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Kovalenko, Muscovites receive a call from an alleged management company under the pretext of the need to change the entrance door in an apartment building. In addition, for credibility, the attackers ask the victim for details. For example, the number of electronic keys to manufacture, as it is more convenient to get them, they offer a separate fee and make spare keys.
It is noted that after that, the attackers inform the victim about the individual code from the intercom, which will be assigned separately to each apartment for the location of the common code, which, according to their findings, allegedly contradicts the security policy.
Then, the scammers send the victim a personal code from the intercom and ask him to dictate it. It turns out to be a code for restoring access to accounts.
Shortly before that, the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that fraudsters began to actively deceive people through fake online stores of major brands, using the theme of sales, including during the "Black Friday" period. According to the agency, citizens may encounter fake online stores that copy the design of official sites, offer discounts of up to 90% and require prepayment.
