47 accidents involving minors were also registered, in which 52 young road users, including 22 passengers, were injured. Four children were killed, three of whom were pedestrians, one was a passenger in a passenger vehicle.
For example, in the Republic of Dagestan, on 438 km of the Astrakhan- Kochubey—Kizlyar—Makhachkala federal highway R—215, a 42-year-old car driver fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another passenger car. The accident killed the culprit of the collision and his six-year-old son, who was transported in the back seat without using a child restraint and a seat belt. The 47-year-old driver of the second car and three other passengers of the first car, including two boys aged two and eight, were hospitalized. In the city of Revda, Sverdlovsk region, a 37-year-old drunk driver of a passenger car drove off the road to the left in the course of traffic and ran over three pedestrian girls, after which he crashed into the wall of a store. As a result of the accident, two schoolgirl sisters aged seven and nine were killed, and their 11-year-old girlfriend and the culprit of the car accident were injured in the hospital.
In Omsk, an 18-year-old passenger car driver ran over a 9-year-old girl who was walking unaccompanied and suddenly entered the roadway in front of a moving car due to a vehicle parked on the left. The girl died. The nearest pedestrian crossing was located at a distance of 110 m from the scene of the incident.
During the autumn holidays, parents were reminded of the need to be more attentive to their school-age children. The lack or negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children often leads to injury or death of young road users. It is important to use retroreflective elements on their clothes to improve the visibility of young pedestrians for drivers on the road in conditions of short daylight hours, autumn weather and evening.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to be more careful both on the roads near settlements and cities, and in the settlements themselves. The behavior of children when crossing the roadway can be unpredictable. Special care should be taken when approaching intersections, pedestrian crossings, park areas and other problem areas, from where citizens who neglect their own safety issues may suddenly appear on the road for the driver.
"We recommend that you slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to react to a sudden change in the road situation at any moment. In addition, always stop the vehicle in front of unregulated pedestrian crossings in order to allow pedestrians to pass through them unhindered," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
