What is "Grokepedia"?

American billionaire and founder of Tesla, Space X, Elon Musk has launched an analogue of Wikipedia— Grokepedia. According to the entrepreneur, the current version of his online encyclopedia is imperfect, but it is better than Wikipedia.

"Version 0.1 Grokipedia.com already available. Version 1.0 will be 10 times better, but even version 0.1, in my opinion, is better than Wikipedia," the businessman wrote on the social network.

Grokipedia operates on the basis of the Grok neural network, which belongs to the xAI project founded by Musk. At the moment, more than 885 thousand articles are available in the businessman's online library.

What can Grokepedia do and how to use it

Why Musk launched Grokipedia

The American entrepreneur launched Grokepedia as an analogue of Wikipedia, which he has been criticizing for more than a year.

In October 2023, NewsGuard, a company that verifies the reliability of information and compiles such ratings, published data monitoring. In it, the social network Mask X and the entrepreneur personally were accused of spreading fakes about the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

"Elon Musk has updated the platform's verification system, allowing users to display a blue checkmark in their profile for $8 per month and receive priority from the algorithm. This means that their posts will be displayed higher in the search results. This decision turned out to be in the hands of scammers spreading disinformation about the war between Israel and Hamas," NewsGuard said in a statement.

After this statement, the billionaire sharply criticized Wikipedia, pointing out that Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales is one of the members of the NewsGuard advisory board. In addition, after the 2023 presidential elections in Turkey, X deleted the profiles and posts of opposition politicians at the request of the Turkish authorities, and Wikipedia refused to do this.

In December 2024, the billionaire responded to Wikipedia's budget report for 2023-2024, which stated that of the $177 million, about 50% would be spent on infrastructure development, 20% on efficiency, 17.6% on "equality," and 11.6% on "security and inclusivity." Musk wrote on his social network that it was time to stop making donations to Wikipedia until it "restores the balance in editorial powers." In addition, the businessman offered to pay $1 billion to rename Wikipedia into something consonant, but completely indecent in sound.
