A monument to Anatoly Bukreev, an outstanding mountaineer and holder of the title "Snow Leopard", will be erected in Chelyabinsk. The initiative was put forward by local public organizations, and deputies of the City Duma supported it.

According to the <url> news agency, the monument will appear in the Central district of the city, in the rock garden.

The project has passed public discussions. The height of the composition will be more than 5 m, the height of the sculpture — about 3 m. The pedestal will be made of granite, and the sculpture itself will be made of bronze. The monument will be installed and maintained at the expense of the initiators.

The agency clarifies that Anatoly Bukreev had bypassed all the peaks of the USSR by 1985. At the age of 27, he received the title of "Snow Leopard". The climber died in December 1997 in an avalanche on Mount Annapurna in the Himalayas at the age of 39.

Earlier, on August 28, it was reported that a group of climbers, which was engaged as experts by Aksai travel, announced the impossibility of continuing the operation to rescue Natalia Nagovitsina, who disappeared at Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan this year. Organizing rescue operations can lead to more casualties.
