The domestic Atom electric car has passed corrosion resistance tests at the testing center of FSUE NAMI in Dmitrov. According to its results, the high reliability and durability of the body was confirmed, according to the message from the car developer JSC Kama, which was received by Izvestia on October 28.

It is stated that during the development of the electric vehicle, special attention was paid to adapting to Russian urban operating conditions — with their abrupt climate changes and aggressive deicing agents. The company noted that due to the lack of a central rack, it was necessary to use a particularly strong frame combining five types of metals. Hot-stamping steel is used to stiffen the body.

It is indicated that all body elements have anti-corrosion protection: in particular, double-sided galvanizing and alumosilicon coating have been applied to hot-stamped parts, the lower part of the body is completely covered with anti-gravity mastic, and plastic flaps completely cover the arches and the lower part of the body.

As part of the tests, the body was placed in a salt mist chamber for 900 hours (equivalent to eight years of operation in a megalopolis), and notches (artificial pockets of corrosion) were made on it. The tests were carried out on a prototype car of the series. Based on their results, a number of comments related to production technology were identified. It is emphasized that all identified shortcomings will be eliminated before the launch of mass production.

Under the purchase and sale agreement, the warranty for end-to—end corrosion of the body will be eight years or 200 thousand km of mileage, and for paintwork - five years or 200 thousand km.

Earlier, on September 29, it was reported that the start of mass production of Atom electric vehicles in Russia is expected before the end of the year, and the cost of the car will be 3-4 million rubles. The number of pre-orders for the model exceeded 105 thousand units.

Prior to that, on September 26, it became known that Atom had passed certification and received Vehicle Type Approval, which allows it to begin mass production and sales of the model in Russia. The certificate includes two versions — the basic version and the taxi version, which is characterized by the absence of a front passenger seat.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
