Belarus says there are no grounds for danger to neighboring countries
Belarus does not give any reason for neighboring countries to feel in danger. This was announced to Izvestia on October 28 by Igor Sekreta, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.
Speaking about the recent Russian-Belarusian Zapad-2025 exercises, Sekreta said that the republic's troops and military forces had been withdrawn inland, and the location of the exercise had been changed and moved east of the western borders in order not to provoke neighbors and give them reasons for "the slightest speculation."
"We don't really give any reason for our neighbors to feel in danger. <… > It is worth remembering that the Belarusian side notified both Poles and Lithuanians that some unidentified targets were moving towards their borders, took measures to neutralize them, and tried to come up with proposals for technical contacts, interaction between the air defense forces, and between border and customs authorities," he noted.
According to the Minister, over the past year, the Belarusian side has been offering its Polish and Lithuanian colleagues not to interrupt technical contacts and consultations, which make it possible to resolve many issues without transferring them "to the political plane." Thus, these initiatives include the operation of checkpoints at the state border, the exchange of information on displaced persons and goods, as well as assistance in the search for persons and the exchange of information on various aspects of international security.
In addition, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that Belarus had proposed conducting inspections under the Vienna Document up to 80 km deep into Poland and the republic to restore lost trusting relations.
The day before, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene said that Lithuania had decided to close its border with Belarus indefinitely in response to incidents involving balloons allegedly arriving from Belarusian territory. Thus, cargo transport will not be able to cross the border.
At the same time, Belarus handed over a protest note to the Charge d'affaires of Lithuania, Erikas Vilkanetsas, in connection with another unilateral closure of the border from the Lithuanian side without prior notice.
