Fraudsters stole jewelry from a resident of Vladivostok for 12 million rubles
A resident of Vladivostok lost jewelry worth about 12 million rubles, the attackers convinced a 23-year-old girl to send jewelry by mail to "protect against criminals." This was announced on October 28 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Primorsky Territory in the Telegram channel.
It is specified that the victim received an SMS message about an allegedly submitted loan application. When the girl tried to call back, a man who introduced himself as an employee of Roskomnadzor answered, saying that she had become a victim of scams, and to prevent problems she had to follow his instructions.
After making sure that the girl did not have large funds, the criminals switched to her jewelry. Under the pretext of a "declaration", they forced the victim to collect all the decorations of the house and send them by mail.
"When it became clear that the 23-year—old girl had no money to transfer to a so-called "secure account," the scammers offered her another option: to declare valuable jewelry," the agency said in a statement.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud").
Earlier in the day, it was reported that in the city of Nazarovo, Krasnoyarsk Territory, a false lawyer deceived a pensioner for almost 1 million rubles. An elderly woman received a call from a man who introduced himself as a lawyer and began talking about an alleged attempt to steal her funds. Despite her appeals to the bank and the police, where the woman was dissuaded from transferring money, the victim was convinced by the fraudster.
