The administration of US President Donald Trump has announced it will hold seven separate classified briefings for Congress on U.S. military strikes on suspected drug ships. This was reported on October 27 by CNN.

"Since the beginning of September, the administration has conducted seven separate classified briefings covering the leadership of the House of Representatives, the Senate and relevant committees," said a senior White House official.

However, the lawmakers claim that the information provided was insufficient. Democratic Senator Mark Kelly said the evidence did not "support" all of the administration's claims about the boats. Adam Smith, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, added that the Pentagon and intelligence agencies have not yet provided answers to Congressional questions.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, supported the possibility of expanding military operations, stressing that Congress would be informed of potential future actions against Venezuela and Colombia.

Earlier, on October 24, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro appealed to US President Donald Trump to abandon military action against Caracas. Maduro stressed the need for "peace forever, without any insane war" and said that Washington's actions represent a psychological war against Venezuela, referring to the deployment of American troops in the Caribbean near the Venezuelan borders.
