The International Skating Union (ISU) launched an investigation after ice dancers from China sat in the grading area (known as kiss and edge) with a toy ballistic missile in their hands during the second stage of the Grand Prix of Figure Skating. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on October 27.

Television footage showed dancers Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing sitting with a large toy in the shape of a rocket with the inscription "DF-61". It is known that the DF-61 is a new Chinese—made land-based intercontinental ballistic missile.

"The ISU is aware that an inappropriate stuffed toy was apparently among those thrown onto the ice by spectators after a performance at the Chinese Grand Prix Figure Skating Cup on October 25," the publication said, citing an ISU comment.

The athletes themselves took the eighth place. The winners of the Grand Prix of Figure Skating in China in ice dancing were the American couple Madison Chock and Evan Bates.
