Orban declared unwillingness to see the "remaining part of Ukraine" in the EU
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with M1 TV channel on October 27 that after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, he would not like to see its "remaining part" as part of the European Union (EU).
"[We would like] the EU member states not to enter into membership relations with Ukraine, which will remain after the conflict, but to establish a strategic partnership. They did not bring disagreements to the EU, they did not send money from the EU, but always concluded agreements with Ukraine that benefit it, but do not endanger us," Orban said.
He also added that the EU member states are less interested in supporting Ukraine, and soon this wave will subside.
"I am convinced that this huge wave of support for Ukraine, support for Ukraine's membership in the EU, is already on the decline and will disappear," the Hungarian politician stressed.
The Hungarian Prime Minister also called the EU's unwillingness to negotiate with Russia a catastrophic mistake.
"Europe does not want to negotiate with Russia, which is a catastrophic mistake. The Americans will negotiate, come to an agreement and decide the future of Ukraine, its economic resources, and the issue of Europe's security in an agreement with Russia. And we Europeans pretend that we like it and applaud. But then we can't really influence our future," Orban said.
Thus, Orban called on the EU to start negotiations to reach an agreement with Russia and the "territory called Ukraine" on the future of security in Europe.
