The Russian Foreign Ministry warned of the risk of an arms race due to the creation of the US "Golden Dome"

The US development of the Golden Dome missile defense system with orbital interceptors is capable of provoking an arms race in space. This was announced on October 27 by Konstantin Vorontsov, Deputy head of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Such actions pose serious risks to the long—term sustainability of peaceful space activities, and are fraught with a sharp destabilization of the situation and an arms race in outer space," Vorontsov stressed during a meeting of the first committee of the UN General Assembly, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to the diplomat, a number of Western countries are openly pursuing a policy of deploying weapons in outer space to ensure their dominance. Vorontsov recalled the Russian-Chinese draft treaty on the prevention of the deployment of weapons in outer space, as well as the international initiative not to be the first to deploy weapons in outer space, which has already been supported by 37 States.

In addition, according to the diplomat, Russia has submitted three draft resolutions on space issues to the United Nations (UN), calling on all countries to support them in order to prevent the militarization of outer space.

On July 22, Reuters reported that the American leader is looking for alternatives to billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX to implement the Golden Dome project. The reason was the desire of the authorities to reduce dependence on a single supplier, the publication clarifies.
