Stoltenberg called for a conversation with Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine
To end the conflict in Ukraine, it is necessary to have conversations with Russia. This was stated on October 27 by former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with The News Agent, which was published on the publication's Youtube channel.
"We need to talk to the Russians if we want this conflict to end," he said.
In addition, he noted that in the next 10 years, the likelihood of a European war with Russia is extremely low. According to him, despite the alleged threats from Russia in the form of cyber threats, sabotage and airspace violations, NATO does not face an immediate military threat from Russia to its allies.
"The goal of NATO is not to wage war with Russia, but to prevent it. And we are successfully coping with this by demonstrating our unity to any potential adversary, including Russia," he said.
He also recalled his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in September 2000.
"He was recently elected president of Russia, I was recently elected Prime Minister of Norway. We had a good meeting. I felt that he was a man who wanted to change Russia and really improve relations with the West," Stoltenberg shared.
He also noted that most NATO allies and military experts were confident that Ukraine would fall within a few weeks after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier, on October 23, US President Donald Trump expressed hope during a meeting with reporters that the Ukrainian conflict would be resolved quickly and the American side would be able to lift restrictions against Russian oil companies. He also noted that he was not sure about the ability of anti-Russian sanctions to shake Russia's resolve on Ukraine.
