- Izvestia and the Russian Academy of Arts will present an exhibition of anti-fascist cartoons.
Izvestia, together with the Russian Academy of Arts, will present an exhibition of anti-fascist cartoons.
The exhibition will combine unique archival materials from Izvestia devoted to the fight against fascism, a multimedia part, historical photographs and original drawings by the outstanding cartoonist Boris Yefimov, including previously unseen ones.
On November 19, the exhibition "Caricatures. Comics. Humor of the Fuhrer's personal enemy", dedicated to military caricature and satire of the Second World War. The project, prepared by Izvestia together with the Russian Academy of Arts, is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials and the 125th anniversary of the birth of one of the most influential masters of political satire of the 20th century.
In particular, the exhibition is based on the works of Boris Yefimov, created in the 1930s and 1940s and dedicated to the fight against fascism. In total, the author worked at Izvestia for about 85 years and entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest cartoonist in the world. Large-scale exhibition "Cartoons. Comics. The Humor of the Fuhrer's personal Enemy" will be located in three halls of the historic 18th-century building on Prechistenka Street. The exhibition will introduce new generations of viewers to the bright, sharp, ironic art of caricature. Original drawings, posters and archival materials from the Izvestia collection and from the collection of the artist's family will be presented. For the first time, visitors will see a unique printing album, drawings from which Stalin presented to Churchill, a notebook with sketches from the Nuremberg trial courtroom and other rarities.
The originals in the exhibition will be complemented by an extensive multimedia component. The cartoon characters brought to life with the help of artificial intelligence will emphasize the relevance and modernity of Boris Efimov's art. And QR codes at the exhibits will allow you to learn more about the works presented, open access to an audio guide and other online materials prepared specifically for the project.
The drawings published in Izvestia were internationally renowned. Hitler demanded that Yefimov be found and hanged, including him in the list of his personal enemies. For his recognizable style, the author was nicknamed the "Disney of Soviet Politics." During the Great Patriotic War, caricatures played a major role in strengthening morale: soldiers from the front wrote the artist many letters thanking him for caricatures of fascists, reproduced drawings in front-line newspapers, glued them into homemade albums.
The exhibition "Cartoons. Comics. Humor of the Fuhrer's Personal Enemy" is open to the public from November 19 to December 14, 2025 at the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts at the Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery at 19 Prechistenka Street, Moscow.
