Director Kusturica pointed out the negative impact of Netflix on the film industry

Netflix can be compared in importance to Hollywood, but the principle of its operation is the worst thing that can exist. Serbian film director Emir Kusturica shared this belief with Izvestia on October 27.

"I think the most important thing as Hollywood is Netflix. This is the worst thing that can happen in the world," Kusturica said, adding that despite this, Netflix can be a useful platform for documentaries.

The director emphasized that Netflix is modern Hollywood, which has changed the usual rituals of cinema: "if earlier viewers went to cinemas, now everyone has films at home." He noted that the viewer is now faced with a difficult choice between many films.

Kusturica also stressed that Netflix promotes old ideas in its films and cannot offer new concepts, even though it operates at a high technological level. He also stated that when films from the Soviet Union period are reconstructed in the cinema, this will open up new ideas and opportunities for cinema.
