The appointment of the Prime Minister of Moldova, Aleksand Munteanu, who has lived outside the country for a long time, will be the next stage in establishing external governance in the republic. Igor Shornikov, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of Russia and former Deputy Foreign Minister of Pridnestrovie, told Izvestia about this.

"This man has worked in the West all his life, and Paris has actively lobbied for his candidacy. In addition, he has long-standing ties with Ukrainian businesses. I think he was chosen for two reasons. Firstly, his tasks will include helping Kiev, Moldova will continue to turn into a rear state for Ukraine. Secondly, the European Union is apparently concerned about the level of corruption in the country. Munteanu has little connection with the local elites, and it is expected that many schemes will be suspended under him," he says.

Shornikov also calls the fact that the new Moldovan prime minister has retired from business, and not from law enforcement agencies, a positive moment. According to him, in such conditions, economic pressure on Transnistria will increase, but the likelihood of an armed escalation will decrease.

Earlier, on October 24, Moldovan President Maia Sandu appointed Alexander Munteanu as a candidate for the post of prime minister. Now, within two weeks, the candidate must form the composition of his government, as well as present the program of the Cabinet of Ministers. After that, he will have to get a majority of votes in parliament.

Parliamentary elections were held in Moldova at the end of September. The ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) scored 50.2%. The main opposition force, the Patriotic Bloc, received 24.17%.
