Szijjarto accused the European Union of fomenting tension in the world
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on October 27 that the European Union was not being given the opportunity to participate in conflict resolution, as the bloc's countries could only "inflame tensions."
"There is another common feature of the Ukrainian and Middle Eastern crises. In both cases, the European Union was not given a single card in the settlement process. But if you think about it, it's not surprising. After all, cards are not given to those who can only inflame tensions where peace should be concluded," Szijjarto said at a press conference with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
According to him, the common feature of both the Ukrainian and the Middle East crises is that the personality of US President Donald Trump "actually embodies hope for a solution."
"Hungary is ready to host the Russian-American talks at any time," Szijjarto concluded.
Szijjarto said on October 22 that the EU elites seek to avoid any initiatives that could lead to peace in Ukraine. He also stressed that Budapest is always ready to mediate in negotiations and maintains open channels of communication with Moscow.
On October 24, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, announced the need to increase pressure on Russia to force the country to negotiate a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. She stressed that coordinated anti-Russian sanctions allegedly play a "key role" in putting pressure on Moscow.
