There were 555 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.

Over the past weekend, 555 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 82 people were killed and 710 injured. 57 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on October 27 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

22 bus accidents were recorded, in which two people were killed, and 45 more road users, including six children, required medical attention. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

So, in the Sverdlovsk region, on 271 km of the federal highway R-351 Yekaterinburg — Tyumen, a 71-year-old driver of an intercity bus with 36 passengers in the cabin crashed into a truck stopped in front of him on an overpass under repair due to a malfunction of the braking system. As a result of the accident, one bus passenger was hospitalized with injuries, and 10 more passengers, including three children (born in 2014, 2015 and 2018), received one-time medical care.

In the Amur Region, in the morning, at 20 km of the Blagoveshchensk Access Road, a 47-year—old bus driver carrying 25 passengers on the Belogorsk-Blagoveshchensk intercity route drove into the oncoming lane during snowfall, where he collided with a truck and then drove off the road. Both drivers and 14 passengers of the bus were injured in the accident, who ended up in hospital with various injuries.

In Samara, a 55-year—old school bus driver from the Orenburg region, who was transporting a children's team of 17 schoolchildren born in 2008-2016 to a hotel after a sports aerobics competition, did not provide an advantage in traffic at a controlled intersection when turning left at a traffic light and collided with a passenger car moving towards him. As a result of the car accident, the 20-year-old driver of the car, his passenger and two 15-year-old young athletes on the bus were injured and were hospitalized. Another passenger in a passenger car and two minor bus passengers born in 2010 and 2011 were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds bus drivers that the life and health of passengers during transportation depend entirely on their skills, driving experience, well-being, law-abiding driving behavior and good technical condition of the vehicle.

As a result of 147 accidents involving pedestrians, 25 people were killed, and another 133 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 17 young pedestrians under the age of 16, 12 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 57 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 90 outside their area of operation.

There were also 67 accidents involving minors, in which 83 young road users were injured, including 54 passengers and nine motor transport drivers. Four children were killed: three passengers of passenger vehicles and a pedestrian.

So, in the Penza region, in the early morning, on 596 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural, a 34-year-old female SUV driver fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the road and crashed into a light pole, after which her car overturned. Two passengers of a passenger car were killed in the accident, including the driver's son, born in 2025, who was in the back seat in a child restraint at the time of the incident. The second son of the culprit of the car accident, born in 2019, who is in a child restraint in the front passenger seat, was sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical attention.

In the Chelyabinsk region, on a regional highway, a 51-year-old female passenger car driver at an unregulated intersection at the exit to the main road did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with another passenger car driven by a 31-year-old woman, after which the second car drove into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a truck. The driver of the second car and her two sons, born in 2019 and 2023, who were transported in the back seat in child restraints with seat belts, were killed in a car accident.

In the city of Alatyr, Chuvash Republic, an intoxicated passenger car driver ran over two pedestrians in the daytime — a 77-year-old woman and her 14-year-old granddaughter, who were crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. An elderly woman and a teenager died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged road users not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunkenness at the wheel and promptly inform the police about drivers who behave inappropriately on the road, driving drunk. Traffic police officers are ready to take all necessary operational measures to respond to such reports.

"We recommend that motorists strictly follow the rules of the road and driving discipline. If you are driving a vehicle, correctly assess its dimensions and speed, weather conditions, condition and width of the roadway, terrain and the possibility of skidding. Do not overestimate your strength, take a good rest before traveling long distances, so as not to fall asleep at the wheel while driving. Driver's discipline is especially necessary if there are child passengers in your car, who must be transported in compliance with all applicable safety requirements," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, on October 7, it became known that 7.9 thousand people were registered in Russia in nine months. Accidents involving drivers who are intoxicated, which is 12.3% less than in the same period last year.
