The dentist named contraindications for the installation of veneers.
Veneers are the thinnest linings that allow you to quickly and aesthetically adjust the color, shape and position of teeth in the smile area. However, despite the popularity of this procedure, there are clear contraindications for which their installation may be not only ineffective, but also dangerous to the health of the teeth and the entire oral cavity. On October 30, Natalia Elfimova, head of the dental department of the multifunctional clinic K+31 West, dentist, surgeon, and implantologist, told Izvestia.
"If a patient is diagnosed with malocclusion, the installation of veneers without prior orthodontic treatment can lead to chipped and even displaced teeth. The dentist will definitely recommend to eliminate orthodontic problems first in order to ensure the durability and aesthetics of veneers," the specialist said.
Elfimova also added that bruxism — gnashing and clenching of teeth — is another contraindication for installing veneers. This habit creates an increased load on the pads, which can lead to them chipping and peeling off. The use of protective mouthguards only reduces the consequences, but does not completely solve the problem.
In addition, according to the doctor, veneers are not installed on teeth that are destroyed by more than 50%, as well as in the presence of large fillings or defects in the inner walls of the tooth. In such cases, preference is given to other types of restoration, such as crowns.
"Of course, it is worth considering such factors as the absence of a large number of chewing teeth, the presence of inflammatory processes in the gums, increased enamel abrasion, and much more. Before installing veneers, a thorough consultation with a dentist is necessary, diagnosis of the condition of teeth and gums, as well as elimination of all identified contraindications. Only an individual approach and compliance with all the recommendations of a specialist will allow you to get a beautiful and healthy smile for many years to come," concluded the dentist.
Earlier, on September 12, Olga Zhuk, internist and CEO of OrthoLike Dental clinic, spoke about the consequences of narrowing of the upper jaw in children. According to the expert, it can lead to a number of complications, such as crowding of teeth, malocclusion, breathing problems, as well as disorders with cerebral circulation due to insufficient oxygen supply.
