Overchuk pointed to the interest of ASEAN countries in the Northern Sea Route
The countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are showing interest in the Northern Sea Route. This was announced on October 27 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk at a press conference at the organization's summit in Malaysia.
"The ASEAN countries are showing great interest in the Northern Sea Route, and today we also informed our colleagues about our initiatives to develop our ports in the Far East," he said.
Overchuk noted that the Northern Sea Route is currently the shortest and most convenient route for exports from ASEAN countries to Western countries.
Earlier, on October 14, Rosatom State Corporation reported that the first transit flight from China to Europe successfully passed through the Northern Sea Route, reducing the delivery time by half compared to traditional routes.
Prior to that, on July 16, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov announced New Delhi's interest in alternative logistics chains through Russia within the framework of trade and economic relations. According to him, the Russian Federation and India have good opportunities to activate routes between the states through the Vladivostok—Chennai sea corridor with access to the Northern Sea Route.
