The European Union (EU) is of interest to US President Donald Trump only as a sales market. Ruslan Andreev, an expert at the Polylogue Group and a political strategist, told Izvestia on October 27, commenting on the refusal of the head of the White House to participate in the bloc's decisions on the use of Russian assets.

He also called the EU schemes banking piracy.

"The freezing of these assets, the withdrawal of interest on them and the transfer to Ukraine are illegal from the point of view of world trade rules. No self-respecting investor will keep money in accounts in countries where your assets could potentially be stolen. In fact, the EU has expropriated Russian assets and has been looking for ways to legalize their transfer to Ukraine for a long time. But such legal methods simply do not exist, and no self—respecting country will participate in this kind of fraud," the expert said.

Andreev also stressed that the current financial situation in the EU is causing serious problems. He added that attempts to divide Russian assets were unsuccessful, as the question remains who will compensate for the damage when it comes time to pay the bills.

In addition, the political strategist noted that Russia will be able to defend its rights to sovereign funds in any international court.

"Therefore, it is logical that Trump is distancing himself from such adventures. He is interested in the EU only as a sales market. The leaders of the European countries have lost their geopolitical influence on world processes, therefore their subjectivity is absent in his chess game," the interlocutor concluded.
