An ecologist from the Netherlands, with the help of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Sakhalin region and public figures, received a temporary residence permit in Russia. This was announced on October 27 by Irina Volk, the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.

Petrus Antonius Johannes van der Wolff came to Sakhalin in 2003. He worked as an ecologist on the island.

However, due to a serious illness, he did not have time to submit his documents on time and faced the threat of deportation. The situation of the Dutch citizen was found out in the Public Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Sakhalin region. They helped the foreigner solve a difficult migration issue and obtain a temporary residence permit in the country.

"The reason for this was Decree No. 1126 of the President of the Russian Federation dated December 30, 2024 On Temporary Measures to Regulate the Legal Status of Certain Categories of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons in the Russian Federation in Connection with the Application of the expulsion regime," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Russians know and love the Dutchman on Sakhalin, they call him in the Russian manner – Petya Volkov. The foreigner himself confessed his love for Russia long ago," said Volk.

She added that in the future the foreigner plans to obtain Russian citizenship and stay in the country.

On October 10, American Alexander Lutsik, who lives in New York, spoke about his dream of getting a Russian passport. He said that he applied for citizenship six months ago, but he is still being considered. A foreigner is worried about being considered a "citizen of an unfriendly country."

On October 18, The Washington Post wrote that more and more Americans are renouncing citizenship for political reasons.
