In St. Petersburg, police officers have stopped the activities of a criminal group whose members are suspected of kidnapping citizens for the purpose of extortion. This was announced on October 27 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.
"The police received a message from an eyewitness to the crime. He stated that near one of the food supermarkets on Vyazovaya Street, unknown masked men in a car <...> abducted a man and headed towards Sportivnaya Street," she wrote on her Telegram channel.
Soon, the entire staff of the police unit was focused on searching for the car. As a result of operational measures, a wanted car was found and stopped on Morskoy Prospekt. There was an abducted man and three intruders in it.
It turned out that they forced the victim into a car, handcuffed him, took his mobile phone and, threatening with a pistol, demanded 10 million rubles. Fearing for his life, the man transferred 210 thousand rubles to them, promising that his wife would bring the rest of the money. At that moment, the illegal actions were stopped by the police.
A criminal case was opened into the incident under Articles 126 ("Kidnapping") and 162 ("Robbery") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
During further events, the police detained the alleged organizer of the criminal group. He turned out to be a second-year student of one of the universities of St. Petersburg, who was detained in the town of Kudrovo, Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad region.
In addition, the investigators found that the detainees may be involved in a similar crime committed the day before in the same area where the victim managed to escape from the kidnappers.
Currently, a preventive measure is being chosen for the detainees, and the police continue to identify all members of the criminal group and clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
On October 27, a source from Izvestia told about the attempted abduction of Zenit football player Andrei Mostovoy. He was attacked by a group of unknown people. The attackers grabbed the athlete by the arms, and then tried to put him in the car. As a result, the young man managed to fight off the kidnappers. A man who was nearby and intervened in the incident also helped him in this.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
