Russia and Vietnam are aiming to develop trade and economic ties, and are also working on the issue of creating a railway link to improve the connectivity of the two countries. This was stated on October 27 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk at a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events in Malaysia.

"The idea of establishing a railway connection with Vietnam through China and Mongolia is being implemented. All this is working to improve the connectivity of our two countries," Overchuk said.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the energy sector remains unchanged.

"This applies to both fossil fuels and nuclear energy, the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes," he said.

Overchuk called Vietnam a "long-time friend and reliable partner," stressing that cooperation with this state is a priority for Russia.

On October 27, Overchuk said that Russia was ready to offer Malaysia solutions for the construction of a large-capacity nuclear power plant (NPP) and small modular reactors on its territory. He added that Russia could increase supplies of energy resources, pharmaceuticals and industrial equipment, including medical equipment, to Malaysia.

On October 26, Overchuk said that Russia and the ASEAN countries have common trade interests against the background of US duties. He stressed that the states of the region are striving to build new integration ties in the new conditions, to develop their system of agreements on free trade zones.
