Consumption of persimmons by people who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), have diabetes mellitus or a tendency to constipation, can be dangerous due to the high sugar content in this fruit. This was announced on October 27 by nutritionist Ekaterina Guzman.

"Unripe persimmons contain a lot of tannins (especially astringent varieties such as korolek), which can cause constipation, especially in people with pre-existing problems with intestinal motility. <...> Excessive consumption against the background of reduced gastric motility <...> may cause the formation of phytobezoars — dense lumps of undigested fibers. In order to avoid these negative consequences, the doctor advised choosing only ripe persimmons or freezing them before use. In addition, Guzman recommended eating this product in small quantities after meals.

She also warned citizens with diabetes against excessive consumption of persimmons, as they contain about 16 grams of sugar per 100 grams of product. In the event that consumption does occur, it is important to monitor blood sugar levels and consult a doctor.

Allergies to persimmons are rare, but possible, especially in people with allergies to other fruits or berries.
