The Interior Ministry told about a new fraudulent scheme with the payment of rent

The attackers pretend to be the owners of the apartment and ask the victim to pay the rent allegedly using new banking details, after which they steal the funds. This was announced on October 27 by the Russian Interior Ministry.

According to TASS, scammers call tenants of rented apartments, pretend to be the owners and demand to pay the rent using updated banking details. Immediately after the scammers receive the funds, they stop contacting the victims.

In addition, the agency advised tenants to pay rent only according to already verified banking details and always clarify information about the change of banking details exclusively from the landlord.

The collected data will help identify criminals on a systematic basis.

The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported a day earlier that fraudsters steal personal data of Russians under the pretext of employment on marketplaces. It was noted that such schemes have become very common forms of crimes related to trading platforms.
