Lavrov pointed out the importance of preparing a meeting between Trump and Putin.
The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump requires appropriate preparation. This was announced on October 26 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the Ultrahang YouTube channel.
"US President Trump has invited President Putin to meet in Budapest. President Putin said he agreed and offered to prepare a meeting," the minister said.
According to the diplomat, the initiative to organize the meeting now depends on its initiators and the appropriate preparation on the part of the parties involved. Lavrov also said that he had a good telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"So there is an initiative, and we are polite people. When we are invited, we say that we agree and let's agree on the format, place and time," the Russian Foreign Minister stressed.
On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin, which was to take place in Budapest this week. However, on October 22, the American leader said that the planned negotiations would not take place, as it was "not the right moment."
Later, on October 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the words of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that it was difficult to disrupt the summit between Russia and the United States when there were no precise agreements. He noted that currently the leaders of the two countries do not want to "gather just for the sake of the meeting itself." According to him, in order for their negotiations to become effective, work must first be done at the level of the Russian Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State.
