The decision of the Finnish authorities to join NATO was a mistake. This was announced on October 26 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the Ultrahang YouTube channel.

"I think the Finnish authorities have made a mistake," Lavrov said.

The minister added that Moscow considers such steps to worsen regional stability. In this regard, the Foreign Minister noted the need for a careful approach to assessing the consequences of the expansion of military-political blocs and maintaining dialogue with neighboring states. Lavrov stressed that the situation with Ukraine and Finland's decision to join NATO have fundamental differences.

"And then, after the start of a special military operation against the Nazi regime in Kiev, the Finnish leadership, it seems to me, fell into nostalgia for the times when they helped another Nazi regime defeat Russia in World War II," he said.

Earlier, on October 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO was nonsense. The President noted that Russia has never had any problems in relations with either Finland or Sweden. There have always been a lot of Russian tourists in Finland, and many Russian citizens have even purchased real estate there.

Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Affairs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, noted on September 9 that Finland and Sweden, having become members of NATO, faced new problems, lost sovereignty in the implementation of foreign policy, and also lost their authority on the world stage.
