Taking into account the experience of previous years, Kiev was preparing for the most difficult heating season under martial law. This was announced on October 23 by the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko.
"Today we face the challenges of passing the most difficult heating season in all the years," he wrote on the Telegram channel.
According to Klitschko, a critical situation has developed in the city of Slavutich, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. He called for effective action based on the new circumstances.
The mayor clarified that, in accordance with the requirements of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kiev, damaged sections of the networks were repaired, hydraulic tests were carried out, boiler rooms were repaired, and the supply of independent power sources was increased. In addition, Klitschko noted that the country was implementing a program of "energy resistance" of residential buildings, as well as creating protection for energy facilities.
On the eve of the former Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olga Buslavets said that the upcoming heating season will be extremely difficult for the country, and the winter will be the most difficult of all previous ones. According to Buslavets, the situation in Kiev, Sumy and Chernihiv regions is very difficult.
Later, The New York Times (NYT) reported that Ukrainian citizens may be left without heating, and factories will close in the coming winter due to rising prices and power outages. It was clarified that the possible closure of some enterprises could provoke more Ukrainians to leave the country. In addition, according to the newspaper, Kiev is currently trying to import gas. It is expected that the state will receive about 4 billion cubic meters.
