- Peskov revealed details of the postponement of the meeting between Putin and Trump in Budapest
US President Donald Trump was the first to say that there was no point in holding a summit in Hungary yet, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin agreed with him. This was announced on October 26 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in an interview with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin.
"The fact that there is no point in holding it now, yes, this understanding arose primarily from Trump. But in his statements, President Putin agreed with this," Zarubin quotes Peskov in his Telegram channel.
The Kremlin's official representative also noted that the leaders of the Russian Federation and the United States cannot meet just for the sake of meeting, for this purpose appropriate preparation is needed. He stressed that the sincere desire of the US president to achieve a settlement of all acute crises, including the Ukrainian one, causes only positive feelings.
On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin, which was to take place in Budapest this week. However, on October 22, the American leader said that the planned negotiations would not take place, as it was "not the right moment."
Later, on October 24, Peskov commented on the words of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that it was difficult to disrupt the summit between Russia and the United States when there were no precise agreements. He noted that currently the leaders of the two countries do not want to "gather just for the sake of the meeting itself." According to him, in order for their negotiations to be effective, work must first be done at the level of the Russian Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State.
