After two days of talks in Kuala Lumpur, the delegations of China and the United States reached a preliminary consensus on measures to resolve existing trade problems between the countries. This was announced on October 26 by the representative of the People's Republic of China at the trade negotiations, Deputy Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang.

"The American side expressed a firm position, while China remained adamant in protecting its interests," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to the published information, after intense negotiations, the parties had a constructive exchange of views on the mutual settlement of issues of interest, including export control, suspension of decisions on mutual tariff increases, the problem of fentanyl smuggling in the United States, cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and port charges. It is noted that the next step will be for each party to conduct internal approval procedures.

"I think we will have good relations with China. I think we'll make a deal. As you know, I discussed this with the President (Chairman of the People's Republic of China. — Ed.) by Xi Jinping. I think we're going to have a good deal, go ahead and they want to make a deal, and that's what we want. We agreed later in China, and then we will meet in the United States, either in Washington or at Mar-a-Lago," US President Donald Trump said earlier.

On October 21, Trump said he expected to reach a fair trade deal between the United States and China at an early meeting with Xi Jinping. The American leader noted that the leaders have very good relations.

At the same time, the US president, speaking about the meeting with the Chinese president, which will be held on October 30 in South Korea, noted that he plans to talk about "many things" with him. The next day, he said that, among other things, he plans to touch upon Beijing's purchase of oil from Russia in discussions with the Chinese side.
