The settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is in jeopardy due to US sanctions against Russia. This was reported by The Hill on October 26.

"Hopes for ending the conflict in Ukraine have potentially suffered after [US President Donald] Trump imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies earlier this week," the article says.

According to published information, Trump rejected the Kremlin's criticism for imposing sanctions and said that a new meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin would take place if there was confidence in concluding an agreement on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin, which was to take place in Budapest this week. However, on October 22, the American leader said that the planned negotiations would not take place, as it was "not the right moment."

Later, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. It was clarified that these companies are included in the sanctions list for activities in the Russian energy sector.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow considers the new US restrictive measures against Russian oil companies to be counterproductive. At the same time, she stressed that the new sanctions would not create significant problems for Russia.
