Last night, Lithuania closed checkpoints on the border with Belarus for the third time. This was announced on October 26 by the press service of the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

"Over the past week, the Lithuanian side has completely closed traffic across the border with Belarus at both road checkpoints three times," the Telegram channel said in a statement.

It is noted that work was suspended at the Myadininkai (Kamenny Log) and Shalnichininkai (Benyakoni) points. The last suspension occurred on the night of October 25-26 for 3.5 hours. The border was also closed on October 25 and October 22.

The Committee stressed that the Lithuanian authorities were closing the checkpoint without notifying the Belarusian side about it. They noted that this creates hopeless situations for drivers of passenger cars.

It is clarified that for truck drivers, the temporary closure of a road checkpoint is less critical.

On October 25, the Committee drew attention to the fact that Belarus considers Lithuania's actions, which alternately closes and opens border checkpoints, to be thoughtless and unjustified. The ministry stressed that such measures are unprecedented and cannot be justified for any reason.

On October 22, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene announced that Lithuania could completely close the border with Belarus, allegedly in connection with contraband weather balloons that were detected in the country's airspace. Lithuanian President's National Security Adviser Deivydas Matulenis also warned about the closure of borders for a long time.

12 hours after the announcement, the Lithuanian authorities opened road checkpoints on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.
