The Ministry of Internal Affairs told about the scheme of fraud with calls from employees of marketplaces

The attackers began using a new scheme to deceive Russian citizens, they make calls posing as employees of marketplaces, after which they hack their victim's account on the Gosuslugi portal. This was announced on October 26 by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"In complex multicomponent schemes, attackers often use a call on behalf of a marketplace employee about an alleged delivery, for which they need to provide an SMS code," the Interior Ministry told TASS.

After the scammers get hold of all the necessary information, they contact the deceived person again and tell him about hacking the account on Gosuslugi, making loans in the name of a citizen and allegedly his participation in financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Then the criminals are forced to withdraw cash from bank accounts for their subsequent transfer to allegedly "special services" employees.

People tend to trust their interlocutor more when they have contacted him themselves, experts warn.

The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported a day earlier that fraudsters steal personal data of Russians under the pretext of employment on marketplaces. It was noted that such schemes have become very common forms of crimes related to trading platforms.
