- Footage has emerged of the aftermath of a gas explosion in an apartment building in Sochi
A 75-year-old man was killed and several people were injured as a result of an explosion of a gas-air mixture in an apartment building in Sochi. Footage of the aftermath of the October 25 blast wave is published by Izvestia.
"Now a part of the wall is missing in the house. Rescuers can be heard working inside. The blast wave was so strong that the fragments and window frames flew several tens of meters," Yaroslav Bogat, a correspondent for Izvestia, reports.
In addition, the apartment owners claim that they did not notice any problems with gas in the house before the tragedy. It is noted that residents will not be able to return to their apartments until the end of the examination — they will be sent to a temporary accommodation facility.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations informed Izvestia about the explosion of a gas-air mixture in a multi-storey apartment building in Sochi. As a result of the incident, a man was killed and one woman was injured. Later, the press service of the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory clarified that the number of victims had increased to three. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Krasnodar Territory added that 70 people had been evacuated. Two temporary accommodation facilities have been set up for the residents of the damaged apartments — in a hostel and in one of the residential complexes, where 18 people are staying.
Later, a local emergency mode was introduced in Sochi. It was clarified that after receiving information about the incident, temporary accommodation facilities were promptly deployed and transport was provided. There were 28 evacuated residents at the points, including seven children.
