The Alexander Gusev cargo ship will be removed from the Barents Sea in 2026.
The deadline for the removal of the Alexander Gusev dry cargo ship from the Korelinskaya Bay in the Barents Sea has been extended again. This follows from the order published by the administration of seaports of the Western Arctic, the Bi-Port news agency reported on Friday, October 24.
The document says that the ship must be removed before November 1, 2026. The reason for the postponement is the difficult hydrometeorological situation, due to which the owner was unable to solve the problem on time.
The cargo ship ran aground near the coast of the Barents Sea in October 2023 due to adverse weather conditions. There were more than 200 tons of cargo and eight crew members on board. A fuel spill was avoided.
Since then, the ship has not been removed. The owner of the Alexander Gusev was ordered to start work on removing the watercraft in November 2024, but the deadline was repeatedly extended.
