Russia will increase its fish trade with Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Currently, the Russian Federation retains its place in the top five fishing powers. This was announced on October 24 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev during the International Fisheries Forum in St. Petersburg.

Among other things, the stand of one of the Latin American companies that supplies shrimps to Russia was presented during the event. Russian fishermen annually produce 5 million tons of fish.

"To stimulate the development of domestic aquaculture, the government provides state support measures, primarily aimed at phased import substitution. In particular, fish feed has remained a vulnerable position for many years. Nevertheless, since 2022, their production in our country has increased almost fivefold," Dmitry Patrushev emphasized.

On the same day, the work of a new test complex of a fish processing factory in the Leningrad region was launched directly from the exhibition via video link.

On October 20, the Russian government announced that it had included fish products in the list of goods for which prices would be monitored based on exchange data. This applies to such commercial fish species as herring, pollock, mackerel, haddock and cod, as well as salmon, including chum salmon, pink salmon and sockeye salmon.
