In Primorsky Krai, eight people were detained for cutting down more than 330 spruce and fir trees worth 1.3 million rubles. This is reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry, Environmental Protection, Wildlife and Natural Resources.

Illegal logging was detected on the border of the Krasnoarmeysky and Terneysky municipal districts. According to the staff of the Roshchinsky branch of Primles, a total of 336 spruce and fir trees were cut down. The amount of damage exceeded 1.3 million rubles.

Eight people were detained during a joint operation by the police of the city of Dalnerechensk and the Roshchinsky branch of Primles. The maximum penalty they face is from three to six years in prison with compensation for the damage caused, writes IA PrimaMedia.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Primorsky Krai notes that the authorities continue to monitor the legality of harvesting New Year's trees. According to the head of the department Konstantin Stepanov, in the New Year's Eve weeks, forest inspectors and foresters, together with the police, will increase the frequency of patrolling forests.
