Moldovan President Maia Sandu has signed a decree appointing U.S. citizen Alexander Munteanu to the post of Prime Minister of the country. On October 24, she announced this on her Instagram account (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

"Following consultations with parliamentary factions, I signed a decree today appointing Mr. Alexander Munteanu as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister," Sandu wrote.

The Head of State wished the new Prime Minister success in establishing a government and implementing the main tasks of maintaining stability, moving towards the European Union, strengthening the economy and improving the standard of living of the population.

Earlier, on September 27, The Washington Post reported that Sandu's actions to prosecute individuals suspected of alleged ties to Russia could lead to a decrease in confidence in the government. According to the newspaper, the Moldovan authorities use the conflict with the Russian Federation as an excuse to suppress the opposition, which expresses dissatisfaction with the restriction of freedom of speech.
