The European Commission (EC) has accused Meta Corporation (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) of violating the digital norms of the European Union (EU) and failing to properly control illegal content on the Internet. This was reported on October 24 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

Facebook Instagram Meta products (banned in Russia), according to the EC, "do not have a simple and accessible mechanism by which users can mark illegal content," such as materials about child sexual abuse and terrorism.

The head of the EU's technology department, Henna Virkkunen, said that social networks should "respect the rights of users and expand the capabilities of authorities to verify in accordance with the Digital Services Act." At the same time, Meta itself denies violating the DSA and will continue to negotiate with the EU.

It is noted that the European Digital Services Act (DSA) obliges large online platforms to monitor their products more carefully. In case of violation of this law, companies face fines of up to 6% of their annual turnover.

On September 8, The Washington Post reported that Meta was hiding research on the safety risks of children using the organization's virtual reality devices and applications. It was noted that the company categorically denied this accusation.
