Omsk pensioner handed over 74 million rubles in gold bars and coins to fraudsters

A 73-year-old resident of Omsk transferred 4.5 million rubles to fraudsters and handed over gold bars and coins worth over 70 million rubles, believing the scammer, who introduced himself as an FSB officer. This was announced on October 24 by the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"The attacker demanded that the pensioner "declare" all the money and gold jewelry available at her home in a short time," the agency said in a statement on its website.

According to the agency, during a video call, the fraudster demonstrated an official ID card and an office with state symbols, convincing the pensioner that she was on the list of persons suspected of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Within a week, the woman handed over seven gold bars, 50 gold coins and almost 10,000 euros to the courier.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale"). The police are identifying all those involved in the crime.

Earlier, on October 15, jewelry and money worth 2.5 million rubles were stolen from an associate professor in St. Petersburg. The safe contained documents for real estate in Sochi and Vyborg, 150,000 rubles, $500, €1,000 and jewelry. The amount of material damage is almost 2.5 million rubles.
