- Tourists from the Russian Federation could stay on Manaslu in Nepal due to an unfamiliar route
A group of Russian climbers who reached the top of Manaslu in Nepal has already conquered this mountain — not so long ago they made an acclimatization ascent along the classic route. Dmitry Ermakov, a candidate for the Master of sports in mountaineering, a mountain guide, told Izvestia about this on October 24.
He clarified that acclimatization was required to prepare athletes for climbing a new, untrodden route. On October 22, they climbed to the top, and then began a planned descent, delayed due to bad weather. At the same time, the guide stressed that new routes can be fraught with many dangers.
"It's one thing to look at photos and videos, but it's another thing in reality, when there may be large cracks on the route and dangerous ice walls. The main difficulty is the unknown," Ermakov explained.
According to him, the experience of the team and the athletic training of the participants indicate that the situation will be resolved safely.
In turn, Alexander Yakovenko, Chairman of the Sports climbing Committee of the Russian Mountaineering Federation (FAR), noted that the group members are some of the leading professionals in their field who have been practicing such ascents for many years.
"This is not the first Himalayan expedition for this team. Now they have climbed the "eight thousandth", in the summer they were all in the high mountains, on the "seven thousandth". These people are high—altitude climbers who do this kind of work all the time," he said.
On the same day, Irina, the wife of Andrei Vasiliev, the head of the group, told Izvestia that a group of Russians were descending in difficult weather conditions, but there was a connection with them. At the same time, Tatiana, a friend of another band member, Kirill Eiseman, also said that the Russians are now waiting for bad weather during the descent, so "everything is going according to plan so far."
The traveller group also reported that low visibility was one of the reasons for the delayed descent. It was noted that forecasts indicate extremely low temperatures and increased winds. However, the leader of the group, Andrey Vasiliev, noted that despite the fatigue, all the expedition members remain in good physical condition.
Earlier, the media reported that five Russians allegedly got stuck while descending from the top of Mount Manaslu.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
