- The climber called the delay of climbers on Mount Manaslu in Nepal a routine situation.
It is too early to claim that a group of Russian climbers who reached the top of Mount Manaslu in Nepal allegedly got stuck during the descent — their delay may be routine or temporary. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on October 24 by Denis Kiselyov, a candidate for Master of sports in mountaineering.
"All these climbers are of a very high level, with a wealth of experience in high—altitude climbing, so I think this is a forced delay, which is dictated by common sense and the complexity of the route," he explained.
The instructor emphasized that we are talking about the so-called "eight-thousandth peak", and climbing to such a peak weakens the body's resources. If a novice had found himself in a similar situation, he might have had to think about a rescue operation.
Kiselyov noted that the climbers who ascended Manaslu are highly qualified athletes, and expressed confidence that they will successfully overcome the difficulties that have arisen.
"I am sure that the situation is normal and everything will end well. Moreover, this is a real record-breaking climb, a very serious one, and it can become a new milestone in mountaineering. Therefore, I am full of optimism," he concluded.
Earlier, the media reported that five Russians allegedly got stuck while descending from the top. Alexander Ivashev, the Russian press attache in Nepal, clarified in an interview with Izvestia that on October 22, the climbers climbed Manaslu and soon began their descent. Due to the weather conditions, they had to stay late. According to him, the situation is under control.
Irina, the wife of Andrei Vasiliev, the head of the group, told Izvestia on October 24 that a group of Russians were descending in difficult weather conditions, but there was a connection with them. At the same time, Tatiana, a friend of another band member, Kirill Eiseman, also said that the Russians are now waiting for bad weather during the descent, so "everything is going according to plan so far."
