Chernyshenko assessed the impact of EU sanctions on tourism in Russia
The EU sanctions will not have a significant impact on Russian tourism. This was announced on October 24 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
He noted that currently the flow of tourists from the EU to Russia remains minimal, accounting for no more than 5.5% of the total number of foreign visitors.
"The EU continues the practice of imposing sanctions against its own citizens...> There are practically no organized tourists. Based on this, these sanctions will not have a significant impact on tourism in our country," TASS quoted Chernyshenko as saying.
On October 23, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU had adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She noted that the restrictions are aimed, in particular, at Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, organizations in India and China. At the same time, the European Union will restrict the movement of Russian diplomats.
On the same day, the Association of Tour Operators of the Russian Federation (ATOR) announced that the introduction of new sanctions against Russia by the EU will not have an impact on Russian inbound tourism. Artur Muradian, Vice President of ATOR and CEO of the Space Travel tour operator, noted that in 90% of cases, European tourists book services on aggregator sites that are not related to the Russian Federation.
