A secret burial site was discovered in the municipality of Sapopon in the Mexican state of Jalisco, which allegedly contained 48 bags of human remains. This was reported by the Tribuna de Mexico newspaper on October 23, citing the state authorities.

According to the newspaper, the illegal burial was discovered on September 26 by representatives of the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco organization. The head of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Mexico for missing persons, Blanca Trujillo, said that the investigation at the burial site is ongoing, and the possibility of discovering new fragments is not excluded.

Work in the excavation area is carried out using heavy machinery due to the peculiarities of the burial site and the landscape of the area. The site is being examined by forensic experts, who need to determine how many human bodies are in the burial. Research is also being conducted at the Jalisco State Institute of Forensic Science.

"The Government of Jalisco is facing a crisis of disappearances that has raised national and international concerns. Official data indicate that there are more than 15.9 thousand missing persons in the state, which experts attribute to the activities of organized criminal groups in the region," the publication says.

The newspaper La Jornada, citing a statement by Chihuahua State Prosecutor Cesar Jauregui Moreno, reported on June 29 that the remains of 381 people had been found in an abandoned crematorium. As noted in the publication, previously the crematorium did not burn the bodies and sent the ashes of other people to the relatives of the deceased.
