US President Donald Trump currently shows no interest in de-escalating relations with Colombia following recent statements by the country's leader, Gustavo Petro. This was announced on October 23 by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt during a press conference with reporters.

"I do not believe that we are currently seeing a de-escalation on the part of the Colombian leader, and, frankly, I do not think that the US president is interested in this at the moment," she said. The broadcast of the speech is published on the White House website.

According to Leavitt, the American leader had already commented on this issue. The spokeswoman noted that she had "nothing to add to his comments."

Earlier, on October 20, Trump called Petro crazy and said that the country was out of control due to the alleged mass production of drugs. The American leader also accused Bogota of allegedly mass-producing and exporting cocaine, stressing that the United States "is not going to participate in this."

Prior to that, on October 19, Trump demanded that Petro immediately stop drug production in the country, otherwise the United States would "do it for him." According to him, the Colombian leader encourages the mass production of prohibited goods "on large and small plantations throughout the country."

On October 18, Petro announced a US strike on a civilian boat allegedly linked to drug trafficking. According to him, a civilian ship was sunk, resulting in the death of a Colombian sailor.
